The LR500-12L lateral chain moulder feeder designed for end-to-end feeding of surfaced wood strips, re-sawn wedges, MDF strips and finished material. Will accommodate material from 24″ to 16′ long, 3/8” ‑3 ½” thick and from ¾” –12” wide at moulder feed speeds up to 360 ft/min.

Drive Works

Using ac inverter drives, the LR500-12L eliminates the mess, inefficiencies and inaccuracies of hydraulics. Simple speed adjustment knobs at the operator’s panel provide easy, precise and immediate control of the feed works while delivering near constant horsepower and torque throughout the wide speed range. The feed works of the LR500-12L is further enhanced by using the upper urethane rollers as pinch rollers while driving only the lower polished steel rollers. This configuration coupled with the superior power of the inverter drive system provides unsurpassed clamping and feeding capacities.

The first upper roller is controlled by a proximity sensor and adjustable timing device to perform the pinching action necessary to accurately feed work pieces end-to-end. The pinch roller set-up propels each work piece to the drive roller combination which drives the piece toward the moulder. The upper rollers are pneumatically controlled in order to handle differences in work piece thickness while insuring positive power transmission.

Chain Deck

The lateral transport chain deck surface of the LR500-12L is 5’ deep x 12′ long and has six arms of stainless steel table-top chains running over UHMW wear strips for maintenance free operation. A separate motor with inverter drive provides power and speed control to the chains.

The chain deck comes standard with High Plains Automation’s on-demand operation. In this mode, instead of running continuously, the chain deck of the LR500 is controlled by the system’s

PLC and runs only when a work piece is needed at the pinch roller. This pulsing action of the chains holds and feeds the material on the deck in an orderly fashion while still maintaining end-

to-end feeding to the moulder. The on-demand mode is further enhanced by a set of operator selected timers which permit the feeding of short and random length material without the need for continual operator assistance. This smooth and highly reliable feed action greatly eliminates the need for the operator to straighten material that has shifted on the deck allowing him to focus on proper grading and orienting of strips onto the chain deck.

For those occasions when continuous running of the chains is desired, a selector switch at the control panel allows the operator to instantly switch from on-demand mode to continuous mode.
